NIGHT AT THE ZOO

Night at the Zoo designed by Tomáš Holek (SETI, Tea Garden, Galileo Galilei) and gorgeously illustrated by Tereza Kovandová, that has been announced together with Prague Unseen at Albi Game Day event in November, is a family game about group of animals sneaking out of the Zoo for a bit of “night fun” and trying to return back in time, so the visitors won’t be disappointed by their absence. In it’s core, Night at the Zoo is a puzzle game, in which players are trying to guide nine animals of three different species to the centre of their gameboard. However, each animal species follows the different movement pattern and scoring rules. Night at the Zoo is a great example of game that is easy-to-learn (rulebook with just 12 pages full of large images), but hard-to-master.

NIGHT AT THE ZOO – LATECOMERS

There are 6 species of animals in the base game of Night at the Zoo, which already provides quite a few unique combinations for your playthrough. But there is more! Latecomers expansion that will be released together with the base game allows you to broaden the pool of animals to choose from by 4 new species – meerkats, crocodiles, monkeys and turtles. Both the base game and the Latecomers expansion are set to release at Gencon and will be distributed by Capstone Games in the US.

PRAGUE UNSEEN

Prague Unseen is a medium-weight (almost heavy) euro game co-designed by Michal Peichl (Forestry, Witchdom), Petr Vojtěch (Dirt and Glory, Medieval: Jan Žižka) and Jindřich Pavlásek (Terra Futura, Bossin Space) and illustrated by Jindřich Pavlásek. It’s the most complex game published by Albi yet. The players will enter the late 19th century Prague, inhabited by mythological creatures such as Horned, Vodniks, Golems and Robots. Together with these factions they will try to rebuild the city after the devastating flood. Each playthrough of the Prague Unseen is different since the player’s actions are – among other things – defined by building cards, so each time you play, the possible actions will be different. Each player also owns a one worker of each faction and each worker’s efficiency in each neighbourhood is different. There is simply a lot to think about in the Prague Unseen. The game is set to release at Essen Spiel this October.

KARAK 2: INFERNO

The third expansion for Karak 2 – designed by Petr Mikša and Roman Hladík - finds it heroes in a precarious position. Holding the last line of defence against the forces of evil, while at the same time trying to find the way to bring the fight back to the attackers. The expansion consists of three modules that can be played separately or combined with any other module from any other Karak 2 expansion. Module Infernal Descent allows for the first time in the franchise history the players to play cooperatively (or even solo). Module Infernal Towers brings a new challenging endgame condition, while module The Last Bastion of Peace allows new ways to bolster your forces through fulfilling quests.

Together with the game itself a third set of miniatures for Karak 2 is set to release – this set will contain miniatures of heroes from Chaos and Inferno expansions and promo heroes. Both the expansion and the miniature set are set to release this October.

POTEMKIN VILLAGES

Potemkin Villages is a challenging cooperative trick-takin card game designed by Petr Čáslava and illustrated by Ekaterina Bystroň that already shown its potential in the annual 54-Card Game Design Contest. They players take a role of character’s helping count Potemkin deceive empress Catherine the Great by setting up fake villages along her journey on the Dnieper River. Using each character’s abilities is a key to victory – but to activate the ability, that character has to win the trick – sometimes even in a specific way. And that’s easier said than done. Compared to the original print and play version (that you download and try right now!), the retail version will contain 3 additional sets of Characters, offering new challenges for the players. Potemkin Villages are set to release at this year’s Essen Spiel.

CARDINALS

A newly announced game Cardinals, designed by Míra Klusák and illustrated by Pauliina Hannuniemi, is the winner of the third season of the unique reality show Den deskovek and it is also a war-themed abstract game for two players or two teams of two (or you can play 2 vs 1). Two sides consisting of two houses each, are fighting for dominance over 3 cities in the centre of the game board. The side that can control at least two of them long enough, wins. However, you don’t always know what you’re standing against. Part of the army is always deployed openly, other part secretly, which allows for bluffing. Cardinals are set to release this fall.

DIRT & DUST: HARBORDIFT

Unique take on rally racing – strategic dice-placement and deck-building game Dirt & Dust, designed by Petr Čáslava and illustrated by Jakub Politzer, welcomes its first small expansion – Harbordrift. In the booster bag you will find a new track full of sharp turns, that will test your skill in controlling your vehicle. The miniexpansion is available now!

NEW CONTENT FOR CRASH DERBY, REMOVAL AND WITCHDOM

During the event, Albi has also unveiled that the new free content is heading to three of their previous releases – a game of vehicular combat Crash Derby (new game mode and new obstacles), tile-laying family game Removal (new moving truck boards) and clever and cute hand management game Witchdom (additional challenges). The new content is already available for download.
